More Mini Card Sets

Here are two more card sets! I think I am done with these as far as Christmas gifts go...maybe one more if my friends decide to do an exchange. I ended up liking the format of this note pad better, so I changed the purple one from the previous post. hehe...

Please leave a comment. I love to hear from you!

Colouring Fun

Keeping Busy

** Edited to include recipe for Asian Chicken Soup. Scroll to bottom of post please. **

Hello! It is a busy day over here! I have just finished cooking up a storm, and am now going to tackle some more Christmas gift projects.

On the stove right now I have simmering:
- Pasta Sauce (to freeze)
- Asian Chicken Soup (for dinner tonight)
- (Regular?) Chicken Soup (to freeze)

I find it so much easier to do several recipes at the same time, especially if they all have to simmer for awhile. They way I have dinner for tonight, plus at LEAST six frozen dinners for the next few weeks. Yummmmmm...

I am done one of four mini card sets I am making for some friends for Christmas. I showed a sample of the card from this set in an earlier post, but here is the finished product!

Included are eight cards and envelopes, an 'important dates' book, and a note pad, all packaged in a little silver tin I found at Solutions.

Four of the cards have a sentiment, and the other four are blank so that they can be personalized as needed.

Asian Chicken Soup

(Please note that I made this up based on an episode of Chef at Home that I watched last week.)

Ingredients:
- 2 chicken quarters (leg and thigh attached)
- 2 bunches green onions - 1 bunch cut into 2 inch pieces, 1 bunch cut into small 1/4 inch pieces
- 2 inch piece of fresh ginger sliced (1/8 inch pieces approx), leaving a piece at the end that can be grated.
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp oyster sauce
- 6 cloves of garlic - 2 whole, 4 minced
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- salt to taste
- hot pepper flakes (to desired spice level)
- pkg pre-made chicken dumplings (unless you want to be brave and make them homemade) I used Wong Wing Oriental Dumplings - Chicken which I found in the Oriental section of my frozen food isle.

Directions:
1) In a medium pot saute saute the minced garlic in the olive and sesame oil for a few minutes.

2) Add the chicken and saute until lightly browned on each side (about 2 minutes per side)

3) Fill the pot with 8 cups of water, and allow water to simmer, taking time to skim off the foam from the chicken.

4) Once the foam is skimmed off completely, add the green onions which were cut into 2 inch pieces, the sliced ginger, soy sauce, oyster sauce, and hot pepper flakes. Allow time to simmer and reduce, to concentrate the flavours and fully cook the chicken (at least an hour).

5) When you are ready to serve the soup, remove all of the contents from the pot, setting aside the chicken to eat, and leave just the broth in the pot.

6) Add the frozen dumplings to the broth, as well as the smaller chopped green onions. Grate some fresh ginger. At this point I also tasted the broth to see if it needed additional salt, and added a few more hot pepper flakes. Allow the soup to simmer for about 5 minutes, or until the dumplings are cooked through, and then serve!

It was DELICIOUS! Even my hubby loved it!

Hope you enjoy! Please leave a comment. I love to hear from you!

Scrapfest U! Update

Hello! Sorry this post has taken so long to go up - I was having some difficulty with uploading the video. I had an AMAZING time at Scrapfest U!, and I am so looking forward to going to the next Scrapfest event in April. It will be held in Kitchener on April 16th and 17th. You can check out all the details for the next Scrapfest event HERE!

In the meantime, I wanted to share a bit about my weekend, which was easier to do in a video than in pictures and text - so here it is!

I forgot to mention that I also won this great book - It is called The Scrapbooker's Handwriting Workshop, and it has pages and pages filled with different styles of handwriting, directions on how to recreate them, and then practice pages as well. It is so cool!

At the end of the weekend we each received these cute 'diplomas' - too cute.
More pics of the giveaways:
Door prize from Scrapbook & Cards Today
Goodies:
Someone PLEASE write me a message and explain what this is :) - hahaha

Thanks for checking in! Please leave a comment, I love to hear from you!

Hallowe'en DressUp

Hello! We had to dress up for work today, and since my hubs is in Med School my co-workers suggested I dress up as a doctor. So here is Dr. Lisa...for a day!! :)

PS - It was SHOCKING the number of people who thought that because I was DRESSED like a doctor, that meant they could talk to me about being naked. Not appropriate people! Dr. Lisa no likey! :)

Have a great hallowe'en everyone!!

CatchUp

Hello! I am having a lazy day today. My hubs and I went to visit some friends out of town yesterday, and now we are both recouping from the excessive amounts of food we ate, not to mention the later than usual night we had!

I am thinking I am going to start organizing all of my wedding pictures from the many many friends who got married over the summer. I must start scrapbooking these or it will never get done. We had 6 weddings this summer, plus I still have to finish a wedding from last summer, not to mention my own wedding album. I got kind of demotivated doing my own wedding book because I did it colour themed to our wedding colours. There are only so many ways you can find brown and green inspiring, so I have left that alone for awhile. I am hoping after I finish all of the other wedding pages I will come up with some fresh layout ideas that I can use in my own book!

Also, just wanted to share some pics of our 'view' from our balcony. Toronto may be filled with oodles, of buildings, but there are some trees outside our building that are showing their gorgeous fall colours! (OK, they have NOTHING on my backyard from back home...but I love fall colours, and at least these ARE beautiful!) :)

Raspberry Suite Color Challenge #18 - Card #2

Just another take on Dawn's color challenge! I liked this color combo so I thought I would try something new.
As a side note, I am finding I lack motivation lately...I need some inspiration!!! Even the potential fall foliage isn't helping (note the use of 'potential'), because it has been so drab and dreary here lately.
I have a stockpile of wedding photos from all of the weddings we had over the summer, and ZERO completed scrapbook pages for any of them! HELP!!!

PTI WCMD Challenge #4

Back again to share my last challenge...and just in time to end World Card Making Day! This one was a bit difficult for me at first. I had to really challenge myself to incorporate the concepts Nichole was asking for...definitely outside of my comfort zone. However I managed to find some inspiration in a picture, and things flowed from there.

Here is a picture I found on the net that inspired me to create what I did:

And here is my card:

It took me a few tries to get an end result that I was happy with. Here is my first try...my second is on the back of this page...
When I finally figured out a pattern that I liked, I worked with my inks to get a multi-coloured effect. Using PTI ink cubes I inked up the middle of my stamp with Dark Chocolate, and the outside with Ocean Tides.
By adding white dots with my white gel pen, (one of the choices Nichole gave us for this challenge), and another stamp inked in Fresh snow, I was able to get an 'aboriginal-y' (swear this is a real word) look - which is what the whole challenge was about!
I added some white satin ribbon, stapled to the edges, matted my Kraft mat onto an Ocean Tides mat, and adhered to the Dark Chocolate base (all PTI cardstocks). I added a piece of twine between the two looped ribbons (a first for me - these challenges SO helped me branch out!) to complete the card.
Hope you like it! And I hope everyone had a fantastic World Card Making Day!
Please leave a comment! I love to hear from you!
