Play All Day - Papertrey Ink Blog Hop

Hello!

I am participating in the Papertrey Ink Blog Hop Challenge today! So fun....my first challenge in ages!!!

This month, in honor of the New Year, we are challenging you to pick your favorite project from 2011 and share it with all of us. To take it a step further, you are challenged to create a second card that is inspired by the favorite project you select. Your new version of an old favorite could carry over the color scheme, the layout or the stamp sets. We look forward to seeing your best creations from 2011, as well as your first projects from 2012!

The project I selected as my favourite from 2011 is a previously unshared layout of some cute little boys in my life having fun at camp. I had supplies left over from this layout (not shocking, as I am a self-proclaimed paper hoarder), so I was able to use almost entirely the same supplies to make my card. The sentiment I added to the card is from Papertrey Ink's 'Birthday Bash Sentiments'. Hope you enjoy!

Teeny Kabinis - Layout Share

Hello!

I have a super fun layout to share today, and I can't believe I haven't shared it yet!! I made this awhile ago for one of Nichole Magourik's 'Scrapbook Stamping' Challenges at Two Peas In A Bucket. The challenge was to use stamps to create your own background paper with stamped images and embossing (which allows you to ink in the image with stamping ink, markers, watercolours, etc). I had SOOOOOO much fun with this! I have never made my own background paper, have never coloured in with sponges and inks, have NEVER used this many flowers on a page ... but I so love how this layout turned out! So fun and beachy - perfect for the pictures I wanted to scrap of a fun beach day in San Juan.

Flowers are from an OLD Imaginisce flower kit (summer flowers, winter flowers, spring flowers...or something like that), papers were from my scraps stash, brads from a mixed bin I have...the only things I actually KNOW the name of are:
- the leaf punch I used - Martha Stewart 'Frond' which also had some stamping and white embossing
- the stamp I used - it is a Basic Grey/Hero Arts cling background stamp called Flower Dot Pattern. It coordinated with the Basic Grey 'Out of Print' collection, which can be found nowhere on this page..haha...but the background stamp was PERFECT for the challenge.

Project Life Week 1 and Week 2

Hello!

I finally have my PL Week 1 and Week 2 ready to post! I have been fretting over how to 'decorate' the weekly label - fretting fretting fretting - and then I remembered that one of my goals was to KEEP IT SIMPLE!!! So I did! haha

I have decided to simply put the week start and end days (Jan 1 to Jan 7 for example), with the TO stamped on a little punched circle, layered on a scallop circle, and popped up on a pop dot. Done. For extra special weeks I MIGHT put a title - for the first week I put A New Year as the title and enjoy it, but I love my letter stickers tooooooo much to use them every single week (haha - can we say hoarder?).

Anywhoo, here they are!

Week 1

I included an insert this first week with my 'Project Life - First Impressions' blog post printout. I thought this was definitely something to include!

Week 2

Hoping I can keep this up! I am really enjoying it so far...even forced the hubby to journal a bit (haha)!

New Die Storage

I have been contemplating my die storage for some time now (read - the time before I stopped being scrappy for 4 months - haha),and when Christina (Creations With Christina) posted THIS POST a few days ago, I knew this was the solution I had been looking for! A few pictures to share here, but check out Christina's post as she did an awesome video showing how she put her pages together. Hope you enjoy! I got all of my supplies at Staples - they had 15% off for teacher appreciation this week which was a nice bonus!

I left some of the die-cutting instructions in the front pocket of my binder for the different stacking requirements of plates and such for the different companies.

I found business card pocket protectors, as well as magnetized business cards, which made this section super simple!

My Staples only had 8 1/2 x 11 magnetized sheets (other than the business cards ones), as well as 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 pocket protectors. For the medium sized dies I simply trimmed my 8 1/2 x 11 magnet sheet to 4 pieces of 4 1/2 x 5 1/2. I added one sheet to the bottom of the pocket, and then ran my sewing machine along the top of the piece of magnet so that I created two smaller pockets. Then I just ran my trimmer gently over the top of the bottom pocket to create the actual opening (be careful here as the page protector and magnet sheets are so thin that the trimmer can cut right through all the layers with very little effort.

Lastly I trimmed the 8 1/2 x 11 magnetized sheets in half for the larger pockets and added some of my larger, (or soon to be larger when my next order comes in!) sets here.

I didn't really want to take my Spellbinders sets apart and put them on magnets until I have to, so I just slipped these sets into the 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 pockets back to back until I need to come up with something better.

Overdue Layout Share!

Hello!

I have a layout to share today that I completed for a Two Peas Challenge (use 7 4x6 pictures on one layout) awhile ago and never got around to posting. Hope you enjoy! The layout documents a surprise birthday party we had for my mother-in-law last year. Basic Grey's Life of the Party line was just perfect for the theme of the pictures!!!

The way Shimelle (challenge creator) incorporated so many 4x6's into one layout was to create a sort of mini-book within the layout. So cute! This provided the perfect spot for journalling on such a busy page.

Project Life - First Impressions

Project Life - so many fabulous ladies are doing fabulous things with Project Life that it is almost intimidating to get started on my own album! Here are some thoughts I have on day one of starting to set things up:

- I ordered the Cobalt Edition (CAN, USA the components come separately, CAN has this option as well), which was my favourite design, and it did NOT disappoint. It is so fun and colourful! Here is a sneak-peak of the cardstock to get an idea of the colours:

- Not a huge fan of the actual album, but I kind of suspected I wouldn't be when I ordered the package. I think I will place an order for a basic album later in the year when I figure out what exactly I will need (depending on my dedication to album wonderfulness I may need more than one!)
- LOVE the quality of the papers and journalling cards. They are a great thickness, but not so thick that they would be difficult to get in/out/layer in the protective pages. The colours are also quite vibrant and festive, which I love.
- The quality of the protective pages is great! I ordered the standard Design A pages (CAN, USA), the multi-pack (CAN, USA), and the 6x12 (CAN, USA). I wish I would have ordered the 12x12 pages (CAN, USA), just for consistency in the page type within the album. I also ordered the big envelope pages (CAN, USA) - they are AWESOME! They are quite thick, which makes me feel they will be quite sturdy when holding larger quantities of items. I have so many fun ideas for when baby comes to put these to use!!
- Overall, IN LOVE!!!

Initial Plan of Action
- It is my plan to run my week Sunday to Saturday. This way I can spend my Sundays completing my weekly spread, as well as any other things I have to do around the home. I accept that this might not always work out, but hopefully I can stay as best on top of things as I can.
- I have an extra weekly calendar that I hope to jot notes in as the week goes by. This will be easy to refer back to when journalling time comes.
- I put all the weekly starter squares into the album, but don't know that I will keep them in that exact order - I do want them separated in a kind of 'random' order, so this was a good start.
- I made a journal card 'ring' where I have hooked on one of each type of journalling card, with the exception of the folding cards. They are sorted by box colour for easy finding, which will give me a little bit more creative flexibility when I want to add my journalling cards. I was going to just sort them randomly and place them in today so that each week I just had to pull out the cards I needed, but I noticed that some of the cards would apply specifically to special occasions throughout the year, and and I wanted to be able to add cards as I liked. Just a personal preference.

- I am contemplating to a monthly overview page, or introduction page (12x12) at the beginning of each month, but don't know yet how I will incorporate that, or if I even will. I like the idea, but don't like the part where I have to think about where to put it...haha.
- I also hope to upload my pages each week to share with the bloggy world as a way of sticking to my plan and staying on top of the pages. Accountability. I need some right now!! haha

Anyway, these are just some initial thoughts. If any of you have done, or are planning to do Project Life this year, I would love to know what your favourite ideas, or words of advice are!!! Talk soon!

Fresh Start...

Hello!!

Ringing 2012 with some news, and some new ideas!

I have been SO NOT MOTIVATED to get scrappy the past few months - partially because I just haven't been taking any fun pictures, but mostly because I have been spending most of my free time sleeping! haha! My husband and I are expecting our first little bundle in May, and man is this baby sucking the life out of me!! I have just started to feel 'normal' the past month or so, and am getting excited to start scrapping some of my first baby experiences - ultrasounds, first kicks, etc. In addition, I decided to try out Project Life this year - I think it will take the pressure off of what I feel is a necessity to scrap EVERYTHING, where in the end I scrap nothing. I received my package today and will have a 'first impressions' post up tomorrow. So many new things in my life this year, but so glad to be back in the scrappy and bloggy world!

Now to actually get to work...haha!!

Baby Album

Hello!

Today I have a bit of a long post picture wise. I wanted to share the baby album I finished recently for a friend. Her little girl turned one, and this was part of her birthday present! I kept the pages really simple. All pages had a plain white background, double layered photo mats, and a Cricut cut and/or title (with the exception of one page that had sticker letters and a coloured digi). I have already shared some of these images for previous Paper Playtime challenges, however most are new! Hope you enjoy!

Paper Playtime Hallowe'en Challenge

Man it has been awhile since my last post! I have been getting the school year started with my grade 8 class and thus...time slips away and none of it seems to go to scrappy endeavours! BOOOOO!! Anywhoo, today's challenge at Paper Playtime is to make a hallowe'en themed project. I have FINALLY finished the album that I was working on for a friend, and this is a page from her album. Ella Publishing Bootcamp - Day 1

I am participating in the Ella Publishing Boot Camp (which at this point is finished, but I haven't had a chance to get to the challenges yet!), and wanted to share my first layout. This combines both of the challenges issued on day 1 (not sure if that's aloud, but oh well :) ). The first was to use a chart or graph for visual, grammar free journalling. Colour Suite Challenge

Today I am participating in the Scrapbook & Cards Today Colour Suite Challenge for July (I MIGHT be a smidge late on this one..haha). This is a new challenge series S&CT is hosting, and this is the first of the series. I SO LOVE the colour combo for this month!!

I had sooooooo many paper choices to pick through, but ended up using papers from the Basic Grey Wander line (love) to put together my layout. I also loved the look of the squares in the actual challenge picture, so I used this as my layout design.

Paper Playtime - Cool Off With Water

This week's challenge at Paper Playtime is to create a project with the theme 'Cool Off With Water'. My favourite way to cool off with water is to go to the beach! However I did a beach themed layout for the last challenge, so this week I chose to focus on my second favourite way to cool off - fun drinks! These are not necessarily alcoholic drinks - my two favourites are just very simple additions of fruit to a beverage!. But if you are looking for some fun party drinks, I am sure adding a splash of vodka or some white wine to either would be delicious!! :) I made a super cute recipe book using costars for the covers, and trimmed some white cardstock to size for the pages. Each page is stamped with 'Ingredients' and 'Servings' on the front, and 'Instructions' on the back. Hope you enjoy! Make it Monday #23 - Creating Pockets with Edger Dies

I am participating in this week's Make-it-Monday Challenge from Papertrey Ink!! The challenge was to use edger dies to create pockets for use on a card or layout. I actually don't own any of the edger dies yet (gasp!!) however I made due with one of my border punches. Dawn McVey was the challenge demo this week, and I seriously loved her layout and colour combination (she used a vibrant green, a more subdued green, and a beige print), that I simply HAD to be just like her and do something similar! haha I used different colours, but a lot of scraplifting occurred (hehe). Summer Card Camp - Week 3

The Summer Card Camp, hosted by Jennifer McGuire and Kristina Werner, is in it's third week, and this week's colour challenge is AWESOME!!! Here is the combo:

I have to say, the cards I made for this challenge took SO MUCH brain power (hahaha). I am really trying to break out of my standard mold and use some of the techniques and sketches I have seen. It is exhausting. Exhausting, but satisfying. I definitely LOVE the cards I came up with. Make It Monday #22 - Multi-Colour Stamping with Ink Refills

Hello!

I am participating in the Papertrey Ink Make-it-Monday Challenge this week (today is the last day!!...eek). The challenge is to create your own 'ink pad' of sorts using re-inkers to stamp a single image in multiple colours...a multi-coloured single image? Something like that...hahaha. Anywhoo, here is what I came up with. I used two different images from the Papertrey Ink Round & Round Anniversary Set (so fun). I really like how this technique works, however had difficulty with it simply because I don't have a lot of stamps to choose from that have a need for multiple colours!! Most of the sets I have (and I have FAR too many) are either single image or multi-step stamping...perhaps I need to invest in this area?? :)

Summer Card Camp - Week 2

Hello!!

I have a two page layout to share today that is based on a layout done originally by Lauren at Lauren's Creative (I LOVE HER DESIGNS!!!!!!!!). You can see her original post here...I still like her layout way more than mine...it is so vibrant and delicious looking...but I didn't have the papers she used, and found some lovely substitutes to incorporate into my layout. At Flaunt it Fridays we 'flaunt' our stuff using a specific cricut cut! This week we are featurning the Happy Hauntings Cartridge. All of us designers have made a project using the 'Friday the 13th' cut on page 54 of the HH manual. We also each create a second project using any cut we choose from Happy Hauntings! I have two layouts for you today. Hope you enjoy!!

My first layout features the Friday the 13th cut (pg 54), as well as the flourished border (pg 45). I used my gypsy to hide all of the cuts to just get the middle green piece.

For my second layout I used the Vampire Font feature to create this Twilight Saga theme page. (Oh how I love Twilight). The circles are from Layer 1 feature on page 60, and the heart is from Create-a-Critter. I am also submitting this layout to the Papertrey Ink Make it Monday 'Selective Inking' challenge!!

Bookmark

I used the reverse embossing/inking technique with this bookmark. Using clear embossing powder I stamped the letter background, and then sponged the blue ink over top. I love this technique as it always looks different and is impossible to mess up! I have a great group of kids this year and we share a common interest/love of reading, so this gift is a bit after my own heart!!

Note Card Set

I love having fun little note cards to send home with students, and thought these turned out really cute! Super simple to put together as well!

I have a layout to share today...I made this when I was at Scrapfest and am finally getting around to sharing it with you! I LOVE LOVE LOVE how it turned out!!! This required some serious effort for me...I had a hard time mixing patterns and adding stamping, but I am really happy with the end results!! Hope you enjoy!

The majority of the papers I used are from the Bella Blvd Tail Waggers & Cat Naps Collection (SO CUTE!!!), along with a few papers I had in my collection.

Paper Playtime - Weather

Hello! It is challenge day at Paper Playtime! This weeks theme is weather ... so fun!! I found the PERFECT stamp this weekend while attending a weekend crop and shopping up a storm
(Rain or Shine - Unity Stamps). It is SO CUTE!!! I coloured the image with my prismacolour pencils. I am really enjoying playing with them and getting more familiar with blending and such. Hope you enjoy!

We each created a Spring themed project. I created a scrapbook layout which will be included in a baby book I am making for a friend. I used my Cricut Gypsy Wanderings cartridge, and Papertrey Ink Fresh Alphabet stamp set.

I then used the same goodies to make a similarly themed card to show how quick and easy it is to use up your scraps, stick with a theme, AND switch between scrapping and card making...something I used to think was IMPOSSIBLE!!!

I used the banner cut for the pages, and stamped them with a Hero Arts background stamp (envelope liner). The numbers and shadows are also stamped with a musical background stamp.

The theme for this blog hop is the Beatles and is celebrating Erika's daughter Ashley's birthday!! We were to pick a song and base our project on that song in some way. My project is based solely on the title of 'A Day in the Life' from the album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band! I worked backwards and found a title that would fit the project I wanted to make (hehe). I made a daily journal/diary for Ashley which should arrive for her some time this week!!

To create this project I used a YourStory 5x7 album cover, and decorated it with various cricut cuts and some bling. The pages are blank white (no lines). This was the first time I used my YourStory and I have to say, I LOVE IT! I picked it out for myself as a Christmas present from my hubby for a FANTASTIC deal from OhMyCrafts ($29 for a kit that included the YourStory machine, and AMAZING rotary trimmer, a variety of hard cover book covers, and a package of various laminating pouches...SUCH a good deal and when I checked this weekend it was on sale again!!). Anywhoo...on to the project!!

OK, so setting up my new craft room is taking WAY longer than I would like it to - HOWEVER look at this yummy wall of inspiration!!! My dad made me these ribbon holders with 2 wires hanging underneath for me to clip things on to! LOVE IT!!!!

I have a card that I made with two challenges in mind.

The first is the Papertrey Ink Anniversary Challenge (Day 2). We had to use one of several digital tags they have available for download in our project. I used the one designed by Lisa Johnson.

The second is Momo's Tuesday Challenge, which is to use white, black and hot pink as our project colours, along with incorporating at least one heart! The Lisa Johnson tag tied both challenges together!!!

Flaunt it Friday - Indie Art Lips

I have a post for the Flaunt it Friday design team today!! The team was challenged to use the lips from the Indie Art Cricut cartridge. I am still working on the baby album for my friend, so I wanted to make a layout for her, and incorporate the lips into the design. Here is what I came up with.

Simple Valentine

Hello!

I have a simple valentine I put together for my students. These took no time at all to assemble and are SO CUTE!!! The base is cut at 4 x 2.5 inches. Hearts are cut at 2 inches (scallop and layer), and 0.75 inches and adhered with foam dots for a bit of dimension. Hope you enjoy!

Paper Playtime - Love

Hello!

It has been way too long since my last post, but the transition into our new house has NOT been smooth. We still have things in boxes alllllll over the place b/c we haven't had a spare moment to go shopping for bathroom cupboards and other storage goodies. I JUST got my scrap room unpacked this weekend, and I am STILL not finished organizing it (gasp). I am going through crafting withdrawals I tell ya!

ANYWHOO...here is my layout for this weeks challenge. The challenge was to use the word love on the craft, and I incorporated it into an adorable baby layout for an album I am working on for a friend. By 'working on' I mean that this is the first page in the album. hehe.

My hubby and I love to plan our meals at the beginning of the week so that grocery shopping is simple, and thinking is minimal after a long day of work. I was at a crop and one of the other croppers made something similar to this, and I LOVED the idea! By using an old picture frame, you can make a super fun (and perhaps even decor matching) design for your weekly menu. Using a dry erase marker you can then write in your menu plans for each day of the week and the glass protects your original design! This is such a quick and simple gift idea that you can whip together with a simple photo frame, and any scraps you have at home. Be sure to scroll down for blog candy! I used my From My Kitchen Cricut cartridge for the die cuts.

I have a super fun layout today that I absolutely LOVE!! I had seen a layout done in a magazine that used different squares on the whole page to make up the layout, and I loved the idea, so I modified it to suit this page. This is from our Thanksgiving last year. We spent Thanksgiving with friends - none of us were able to make it home for the holiday, so we gathered together to celebrate! Happy Hallowe'en and a Layout

Happy Hallowe'en Everyone!

It is actually SNOWING where I live right now...I feel sad for the lil trick-or-treaters who will have to venture out in this cold weather this evening...all in the name of candy! I celebrated last night with my sister and husband, carving pumpkins and watching our favourite hallowe'en movie, Hocus Pocus! Such a fantastic tradition!

In honour of remembering warmer days, I have a scrapbook layout from a vacation I took with friends last spring. I used the Crate Paper Brook collection (LOVE) for my layout. I know I used a sketch for this layout, but I can't find the picture of it to give credit to the creator! If you recognize it please let me know so I can give credit! Hope you enjoy!

Scapfest Oshawa This Weekend!

Homeade Flower Challenge - Tuesday Morning Sketches

Hello!

I am guest designing again this week for Tuesday Morning Sketches, and our challenge this week is to make homemade flowers and use them in a project! HOW FUN!!!!! I love this kind of challenge, and have created a quick tutorial for you for the flowers I used on my project. Be sure to hope over to Tuesday Morning Sketches to see our fabulous giveaway, and participate in the challenge this week!!

People are LOVING the Tim Holtz 3D flower dies, and as such, they seem to be out of stock almost everywhere. Today I have a super easy way for you to create the same effect with a tool that you probably already have!

The Process

1. Using a scalloped circle punch (mine was 2 1/2 inches),
punch out scalloped circle from whatever paper you want to work with.

2. Using your paper scissors, make a cut into the scalloped circle,

starting between two of the scallops...

3. Continue cutting around the circle until you end up with something
that looks like this!

4. Using a mini-mister or spray bottle, spritz your scalloped circle with
some water to make the paper a bit more pliable.

5. Begin twirling your paper to form your flower. I start out with my
paper piercer because the very inside is a bit hard to work with at first.

6. Once I have the beginning of the flower formed, I continue forming
the flower with my fingers.

7. When you are finished, you will end up with something like this!

8. Again I used my paper piercer, but this time to gently open my flower up a bit. This is not necessary, however I wanted my flower to be a bit more open.

9. Using some Scotch Quick Dry glue I adhered the bottom flat piece of my scalloped circle to the base of my flower.

10. And you are done! Add whatever bling you want to the middle and let your flower dry for a few minutes!

I ended up making three of these little guys for my card.

After they dried a bit, I spritzed them with some Silver Smooch Spritz to give them a bit more 'something-something' (haha).

I am participating in the PTI August Blog Hop tonight, and the challenge this month is to incorporate a good old paper bag into our project!! I created a super cute mini album (which has yet to be filled), along with a little keepsake packaging for it. Both are made out of paper bags, and turned out just oh so cute! Paper Playtime Queen - Happy Anniversary

'For You' Card

Hello!

I have a card to post today! I made this for this weeks Tuesday Morning Sketches challenge...it is called a diagonal double pocket card, and this is the first time I have ever made one. It is not my fave ever, I think because I don't like the patterned paper that I used. Next time I will chose a more simple pattern for both sides...this one is just a bit too busy for me...however LOVE the folding technique!!!

Love - Sketchbook2 Day 2

Hello!

I have a layout for you today that I made based on the Day 2 sketch for Kelly Purkey's Sketchbook 2 class. My grandmother passed away last weekend (not unexpectedly...she had been battling with cancer for the past few months), and I made this as my part of her memorial items at the visitation. She was an amazing woman, who was a major part of my upbringing. Incredibly strong (physically, and emotionally), she grew up playing competitive hockey, baseball and basketball, became a nurse, and then served as an army lieutenant in WWII. She lived an amazing life, and would have been 90 this November! I used a photograph of her and myself on my wedding day, and another of her and my grandfather on their wedding day. I REALLY love how it turned out!!!!

Sketchbook 2 and Big Idea Festival

Yikes!! I am so behind on so many projects AND my old bloggo....too much going on these past few weeks!!! I am participating in Kelly Purky's 'Sketchbook 2', as well as Big Picture Scrapbooking's 'Big Idea Festival', and I am sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo behind on both projects. These might be 'catch up later' kind of things...hahaha. They are both really great resources though! The sketches I have collected so far are FANTASTIC, and will be so useful when I get into a rut (which happens more often than I like...hahaha).
I have been spending oodles of time at camp (the cottage), trying to soak up these last few weeks of summer before we start school again. I brought stuff out with me to scrapbook, but never got around to doing much. Anywhoo, I hope everyone is doing well, and enjoying the summer!!! I will leave you with two quick cards I made for a friends wedding we went to a few weeks ago. Both were super quick and simple to make!! Hope you enjoy!!

Kitty Corner - Sketchbook2 Day 1

Hello!

I am participating in Kelly Purkey's 'Sketchbook 2' workshop (although I am quite behind due to a very busy past week). Today I have a layout made using the Day One Sketch. This is a picture my husband took of a kitty when we were visiting friends at their cottage. I do not like this cat...he was quite unfriendly, however I do love the picture...hahahaha.

Most of the materials used to make this layout were from the Adirondack Add-On kit this month at Studio Calico, with the exception of some PTI cardstock (Simply Chartreuse), PTI stamps (Fancy Flourishes, Damask Designs), PTI Ink (Pure Poppy), SU! Ink (Crumb Cake), Ranger Distress Ink (Antique Linen), and PTI Buttons.

I did a lot of distressing to the papers edges by sliding the edge of a pair of scissors along the paper. I also used the Distress Ink on the main background page, and the journalling card. I also crinkled up some of the smaller paper pieces with my hands to give them a more aged look. I really like how this page turned out!

School Days

Hello!

Our theme this week is 'School Days', and I made a layout for my upcoming school year. It might seem silly to scrap about beginning the year as the teacher, but I love it...hahaha. My favourite part about beginning any new school year was shopping for supplies, and I still quite enjoy this aspect of the job, even if the supplies are a bit different. There is room for three pictures, sized 3x2 on this layout.
I modified the image a bit...it originally had an American Flag, but since I am Canadian, I changed that out! I hope the designers are OK with this :).
