The History Project

I am taking Kerri Bradford's class 'The History Project' this year, among other scrappy/memory keeping endeavours.  She posted a bit of information about the class and what has been going on so far on her blog today (you can see her post HERE), and I decided to write a comment on the post for people who might be interested in taking the class, but are just not sure yet.  I decided to post that same comment here, just in case any of you have thought about taking her class, or have never even heard of it and might be interested in what we are doing (although if you haven't heard of it, I recommend checking out Kerri's post first).

Fellow Memory Keepers,
If you are at all thinking about taking this class, stop thinking, and just do it! Kerri has found a way to truly inspire me to get my own stories on paper. I have always been a keeper of memories, hoarding memorabilia from various events, trips, etc. However I have never been a fan of the journalling part. At most, I would jot down a few ideas and forget where I even wrote down the information. A few years ago I began scrapbooking, however I know if I go back and look at my many layouts, very few of them will have detailed journalling included on them, because I just don’t enjoy reflecting. I saw the posting for this class originally and thought, sounds fun, but I will never enjoy it. However after seeing the posting a few additional times (I may or may not be a bit of a Bradford Studio’s blog stalker), I got to thinking – I really DO want to record those memories from my childhood – and having prompts would probably be pretty helpful!
I hate that I have already lost grandparents, and never took the time to get their points-of-view on various events. I have already missed out on adding their voice to my memories. I don’t want to have the same thing happen to my children, or my children’s children (I should add that my son is 8 months old so this may sound a bit dramatic…haha).
So I signed up. And somehow, Kerri has made this manageable. She has made this FUN. And she has kept this simple, which is exactly what I need. She has found a way to prompt my thinking, and get my gears going to bring back old memories that I may never have thought to record! I feel no pressure to keep up each week – however I have my journal ready, and an additional pad of paper around to jot down ideas for whatever topic I am currently on so that when I have time to sit down and properly journal, I have my ideas ready to go!
I truly think that if you enjoy memory keeping, you will enjoy this class. And seriously, for the content we have received so far, the price is a complete bargain! I hope you join me on this amazing journal of self-reflection and personal memory keeping!
Have a great day!

One Little Word 2013

Hello!

I decided to participate in Ali Edward's One Little Word class this year.  I have been intrigued by it for a few years now, and finally decided to take the plunge!

I think I actually chose to participate because when I saw the advert for the class the word CHALLENGE immediately popped into my brain, and refused to leave - even after I signed up for the class.  Clearly this was the word I was meant to choose for 2013.  I was a bit hesitant...the word challenge has a lot of negative connotations and I wasn't looking to channel any of those into my year.  But I did realize that 2013 would come with many challenges, and I wanted to face them with an open mind and an open heart - and journalling 2013 with 'challenge' as my one little word was a good start.

I started by doing some investigating - I had seen people make dictionary, thesaurus and quote cards in previous years (maybe on Ali's blog? - I think they might have been part of the class) - so this is where I started.  I didn't write out the full definition or list of thesaurus words as many of them didn't apply to my view of the word at all.  However this is what I ended up with.

And here are my January pages - love how they turned out!  I used some fonts I found online to create cards...a first for me...might have to do this more often!!

January - Right Page

i am really looking forward to where this class takes me, and am already loving how my word has incorporated itself into my life, and works so well with other classes (Move More, Eat Well 2.0, The History Project) and projects (Project Life, A's Baby Album) I am focussing on!

Completed December Daily

That's right...COMPLETED!!

I can't believe I actually finished this - so proud of myself.

I completed my December Daily within my Project Life album.  Rather than do Project Life AND a December Daily I just combined the two and am so pleased with how it turned out.  I don't think I ever would have completed both projects, plus I think the idea of double documenting is silly.  (PS - I got this idea from Michelle Wooderson.)

Please note that I blurred out some names and faces as I am not sure some of the people I have included in my DD want to be plastered all over my blog/  ALSO please note that there are disgusting pictures of my giant tonsils towards the end, but  I'm documenting real life here folks!

Settle in for a million pictures people - here we go!

Hope you enjoyed my December Daily!

An Actual LAYOUT! That's NEW!!

OK, the world must have stopped or something because I have actually made a layout.  A real layout.  With pictures, and patterned paper, and even some letter stickers and punches!  It is amazing how great it felt to get scrappy again!  Woooo whooo!!  Thank you Two Peas CHA Challenges for getting me motivated!!

Anywhoo, here is the layout.   This is my first ever (I think?) 6x12 layout.  I really enjoyed working with this size and will definitely have to do these more often.  Almost the whole thing is picture focused, which I really like and rarely do.  I kept everything super simple and really like how everything turned out.  This layout is for Two Peas In A Bucket CHA Challenge #4 - Use Four Words In Your Title.

This layout will go in my Project Life book along with the other pictures from this week.  Hope you enjoy!

Products used include:
Cardstock: Kraft (Bazzil)
Patterned Paper: THANKful Collection (Bella Blvd)
Letter Stickers: THANKful Collection (Bella Blvd), "Carefree" Elements (Authentique)
Other: Circle Tag (Elle's Studio), Washi Tape, Heart Punch (EK Success)

You Make Me Happy

Hello,

I have a layout to share - an old one, but one I haven't shared yet at least!
I absolutely LOVE this layout.  I love the colours.  I love the patterns.  I love the fact that I actually used stamps on a layout.  I just wish I had pictures to put on it (hehe).  I made this layout with the intent to take pictures with my hubby (as the layout and journalling are speaking to and about him) - alas, we have yet to take those pictures.  But when we do, I have a layout ready! :)
